HGV Driver

The Role
As an HGV Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of goods, ensuring deliveries are completed on time and in line with customer expectations. The role involves operating company vehicles professionally while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out collections and deliveries in accordance with daily transport schedules and customer requirements.
- Ensure all loads are checked, secured, and transported safely, minimising the risk of damage or loss.
- Complete daily vehicle and trailer inspections before, during, and after each shift, reporting defects promptly through the appropriate channels.
- Operate company vehicles in a safe, professional, and fuel-efficient manner.
- Comply with all relevant transport legislation, including Driver Hours Regulations, Working Time Directive requirements, Tachograph Regulations, and Road Traffic legislation.
- Maintain accurate records, delivery documentation, proof of deliveries, and vehicle defect reports.
- Communicate effectively with the Transport Office regarding schedules, traffic delays, vehicle issues, customer requirements, or any operational concerns.
- Ensure vehicles, trailers, and loads remain secure at all times.
- Adhere to company Health & Safety policies, site rules, and safe systems of work.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a professional, courteous manner when dealing with customers, suppliers, and members of the public.
- Assist with loading and unloading activities where required, ensuring all manual handling procedures are followed.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, or compliance concerns immediately.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds a valid HGV Class 1 licence
- Driver CPC qualified with a valid digital tachograph card
- Previous experience in a transport or distribution role
- Good knowledge of UK road networks and transport regulations
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Flexible approach to working hours when required

Experience within temperature-controlled transport, food distribution, or warehousing operations.
